After the long rumors of each company releasing a “Prime”
version of its flagship a few months after initial release, it seems we have
some clarification on the subject. Following in Samsung’s footsteps, LG has
released an improved, LTE-A version of the LG G3, named the LG G3 Cat. 6.
Similarly to the Samsung variant, the improved LG flagship will
only
be available in its home market, South Korea. The improved version will likely
include Snapdragon 805, QHD display, and 3GB of RAM. The reason both companies
released this improved versions, are simply since LTE-A offers up to 300mbps
download speeds, which the Snapdragon 801 can’t offer, and only the 805 can
produce.
LG has yet to clarify any details regarding the new handset,
and all the above specs are rumored. LG has opened a pre-order, offering a
notify-me option when the phone is available for purchase.
So, it looks like all the beginning outrage about the
upcoming Prime variants was un-justified, as they are only available in the
home markets, and will not threaten current flagships in the US and other
markets which aren’t named South Korea. Well, the South Korean can be upset.
Actually not, since they do get the better variant at the end of the day.
Note: The phone was announced on July 11th, but is yet to have a definite release date.
