Firefox Mozilla Firefox OS phones to launch in new countries

Firefox OS, the new operating system by Mozilla, has gone a long way since being announced in 2012. Like Android, FireFox OS is open-sourced, Linux-based, and offers user-customized experience.

The latest phone sporting the young OS, the Alcatel OneTouch Fire E, is now coming to 8 new countries: France, Czech Republic, India, Taiwan, Germany, Croatia, Macedonia and Montenegro.

Here's Mozilla's official statement:
“It’s been a year of both tremendous growth and exciting opportunity for Firefox OS. As the only truly open-source platform, Firefox OS has unlocked users, developers and industry participants from the mobile market’s closed systems and content gatekeepers. Now, we are expanding that pursuit across new regions, handheld devices, and soon into other areas of our users’ lives as new form factors begin to take shape,”
The phone features a 4.5', 960x540 display, housing a dual core, 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, 5MP camera and a 1,700 mAh battery.

The handset is expected to cost around 50$, and will have a direct competition with the upcoming Android One over the hearts of the lower-end market.

The phone will first be available to German customers starting next week.
