Wikipedia ported to Android Wear under the name "Attopedia"

While smart-watches were declared from the beginning as not purporting to be a smartphone, but rather a way to control your notifications without taking your mobile out of our pocket. Nonetheless, some developers are trying to make the most of the platform.

Dheera, who also brought us an Android-Wear-optimized Maps app, has now released a neat-looking Wikipedia for Android Wear, under the name Attopedia. You can swipe up and down to move between the pages/terms, and to the sides to see information about the page. The process can be seen in the image below.

HP to release round Smart Watch, not to run Android Wear

With all the companies hopping on the smartwatch bandwagon, it is not surprising to see HP join the trend. In order to produce the device, HP has partnered with designer Michael Bastian, in an attempt to design a stylish watch which will stand out against the starting-to-get-overcrowded market.

A welcome design feature is the round display which we know and love from the Moto 360, and the watch will be designed out of a 44mm metal frame, which should help the premium feel of the device. While it will not run Android Wear, it should support iOS and Android devices alike through dedicated apps.

The device will support changeable plastic, rubber and leather bands. According to Michael the designer, the design was inspired from the 'interiors of luxury cars'. Whatever that means, it sounds good.

While we do not have any other details about the device, it will probably cost in the $200-250 range, and should launch around the fall. Stay tuned for more details.

LG updated LG G Watch, attempts to fix corrosion issue

While the charging ports of the L G Watch are conveniently placed on the back of the device, that means they will often come into contact with your hands and sweat, which as we found out last week could lead to unpleasant consequences, in the form of skin irritation, as you can see below.

The new update will bump up the software version from KMV78V to KMV78Y. It is supposed to fix the corrosion issue. Since the bug was caused when sweat came into contact with the electrical current coming from the charging port, the update simply disables that when the G Watch is not charging, e.g. on your hand, so it will not happen again. Here's the official statement by Google:

Recently it has come to our attention that a small number of G Watch devices have been reported to have developed discoloration and residue buildup on the terminal pins located on the back. While completely safe and unlikely to affect charging, LG will be rolling out a maintenance release over the next few days that will disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock. The maintenance release will be rolled out automatically over-the-air to all G Watch owners. We thank G Watch users for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Since it is a staggered roll-out, try being patient and you will receive the update in the next few days.

Smartwatches are looking out to be the next big thing in wearable technologies, and in mobile technology as a whole. More and more companies are prepping their own watches, with companies like Samsung releasing three models in one year.

However, although they might be very comfortable at viewing notifications without having to take your phone out, the small screen smartwatches feature produce some major issues, such as typing.

Phones had that problem too at the beginning, but with phones getting bigger and bigger this issue has become a lot less, even disappearing as a whole. However, no smartwatch exceeds even 2’ of screen, presenting a major problem even for non-sausage fingered people.
