A reddit user named "TweekTheGeek" posted a thread claiming his Galaxy S4 almost ignited while he was sleeping and the phone was charging, and he managed to disconnect it before any ignition happened. However, the damage had already been done, in the shape of a burned-beyond-use charging port. He asked Samsung for a replacement, and there the Saga begins.
Initially, the guy asks for a replacement, and swiftly gets offered one, seems like it's all good. However, he waits and no replacement arrives. He posts the following thread on Reddit, and gets a surprising response from HTC, offering him an HTC One M8 with one condition; if he gets a replacement S4, he will donate it to charity.
Well, HTC wasn't quite being the hero of the day. While it was definitely a noble thing to do, initially the user claimed he had used an HTC charger when the phone was igniting, so perhaps it was a damage control attempt (he later stated it was in fact a Samsung charger), but anyways it is pretty nice of a company to come out like that and offer a free device.
If you're curious how this ended, the guy admits he still wants an S4, Samsung finally replies to him and he gets a shiny new S4. Happy end.
