goTenna, a new
communication-focused start-up, is primarily targeted at helping you
communicate with people at times when you have no reception on your phone.
We all know
this situations- it can occur when there is a blackout, when you are at an
event with many people, or simply when you went hiking too far and you’re past
the radio towers.
Which is
basically what goTenna is- a mini, portable radio tower. It enables you to send
messages up to 29.4 miles away from you current location. That means you could
be standing in one end of New York City and your buddy at the other end, and
you’d still be in reception area.
It comes with
a built-in messaging app, and claims to allow up to 30 hours of usage. It
connects to your phone through Bluetooth.
Check out the
introductory video:
You can
pre-order it starting today for $149.99 (retail price will be $300), and it is
expected to ship in the fall. Pre-order here.
