For the few
who aren’t updated, Snapchat is a popular picture- and video-sending platform,
whose prime feature any sent media gets deleted immediately after it is viewed,
and the sender gets notified in case a screen-shot is taken of his sent media.
Now, it seems
Snapchat wants to extend its services beyond simple media-exchanging, and add
another dimension which will enable users to transfer money between themselves.
Snapchat’s
apparent course of action was discovered thanks to a patent filling it made.
The patent reveals the popular platform wishes to feature P2P money transfers,
online payments and money transfers. Here’s a summary of the filings:
Computer application software for processing electronic payments to and from others that may be downloaded from a global computer network (Trademark Serial # 86335306)Electronic transfer of money for others; providing electronic processing of electronic funds transfer, ACH, credit card, debit card, electronic check and electronic, mobile and online payments (Trademark Serial # 86335307)
It is yet
unclear as to how exactly Snapchat will manage this money transfers, but expect
to get more details concerning the matter in the near future.
