Running out of storage is one of the biggest annoyances in our smartphones- Who wants to start going through everything and starting to delete stuff just to make room? Storing on the cloud is also considerably less convenient than having on your phone. Now, you might not have to deal with this issues anymore.
RRAM (resistive RAM), a technology developed by researches in Rice University, uses a material name Silicon Oxide (it is also used for making your smartphone batteries extend for longer), and could store up to 1 TB of storage. To put in perspective, that's enough for 250,000 songs, or 800 full-length HD movies. Basically, more than enough for your average and above-average user.
Although these technology is yet to become commercial and there is quite some time until it reaches our smartphones, it has been tested at room temperature and that is significant and means it is ready for prime time, only thing stopping it is currently-slow production. There are many companies already interested in RRAM, and trying to patent the new technology.
What do you think of the new technology? One thing is for sure, if 1 TB storage comes to life it will be the end of all storage problems (and maybe the cloud?).
