Statistics for the 2nd
quarter of 2014 are here, and it’s time to see which differences occurred in
the 100 years’ war between Google Play Store and the Apple Store.
One thing you’ll notice in his
statistics is that Apple’s are very consistent- the overall numbers are pretty similar,
the increases are pretty similar in all categories, while Google Play’s are
pretty much all-around.
As far as total downloads go,
Google Play has far passed the Apple Store, and since there are significantly
more Android devices it seems that stat won’t change. The numbers are over 150
million downloads for Google Play, a 60% increase from last quarter, and around
100 milion for iOS, 45% increase from last quarter.
The surge in downloads is probably
because Google made its way to so many emerging markets, that it was inevitable.
However, in the revenue area you’ll see where that becomes a problem.
As far as revenues go, iOS
dominated Google Play, almost doubling the latter’s numbers. That’s the problem
with emerging markets, while they help with the statistics, they tend to not
spend as much money, and that’s why while Apple ( identically to the last
statistic) has $100 million revenue, 45% increase from last quarter, while
Google Play has $60 million, 30% growth
from last quarter.
There are many more statistics,
which we didn’t bring since we found them to be less relevant, but in case you’re
