Microsoft Troubles with Nokia ‘Cyan’ WP8.1 Update

Windows Phone have waited long and patiently to receive their treat of the new Windows Phone 8.1 OS, and are now starting to receiving it in a new update name Nokia Cyan.

One of the advantages of Windows Phone over Android, is in that when Windows gets upgraded, usually most of the devices get it simultaneously, without the need for some lazy OEM to get it ready for you.

Now, that’s not saying there’s no difference between the update each device receives: For example, Windows Phone users in the UK didn’t receive Cortana yet, and some handsets get features other don’t enjoy, such as Lumia 1520 and 930 being treated to Dolby Digital Plus 5.1

Anyways, with this new update, most users have been enjoying new features that appear in 8.1 such as Action Center, an extra row of tiles, camera improvements, and more. However, if you were rocking the Developers preview for WP8.1, you might have some troubles installing the official update.

Such troubles might even go as far as bricking your phone, and although a fix is unreleased-as-of-yet, Microsoft already brought out a solution. Microsoft is suggesting for anyone who’s having trouble, to downgrade to the previous official version, and then upgrade from there. Here’s their official statement:

We are currently investigating the issue. We have paused delivery of the update to customers using the Preview for Developers, and will resume once a fix is in place. Customers whose phones have been affected should use the Nokia Software Recovery Tool to return your Lumia to a normal commercial software state before downloading the Lumia Cyan update.

This problem only concerns users who updated using BitLocker. Others should have a fine time, and there’s no reason to worry for those who didn’t even try out the Preview. Tell us below how are you enjoying the update!
